Raising a Village from Dispair to Hope

Agriculture

Caring Partners Global engages the community to learn new methods for increasing crop yields and livestock management in this harsh and unpredictable climate. Through demonstration plots and projects the community is exposed to new techniques of soil preparation, crop and seed selection and animal management. CPG has partnered with other organizations to provide access to adequate and uncontaminated water to Matangwe and the 17 surrounding communities.

CPG engages experts to support community members in learning the best methods for increasing crop yield in the harsh and unpredictable environment. Current areas of focus are:

  • Soil preparation using less labour intensive and locally available tools
  • Crop and seed selection
  • Kitchen gardens using low technology bucket drip irrigation systems
  • Domestic animal management for food and income generation such as chickens, goats and cows
  • Adequate nutrition using locally available foods and plants
  • Access to adequate, safe and uncontaminated water for the entire community

Chicken Coop

The chicken coop located in Matangwe is comprised of 3 units and currently houses 230 layers. Approximately 190 eggs are collected each day and are sold to local farmers and businesses.  This project serves as an incoming generating activity for MCHDP with the long term goal of introducing poultry keeping practices on a smaller scale in individual homes.
