Maternal Child Quality Improvement Program
We have completed the final year of our 3-year Maternal Child Quality Improvement Program to enhance the care and improve outcomes for mothers and babies in the Matangwe region. Thank you! Your help made this a reality!
The Matangwe Hospital services rural and remote communities as the nearest government health care facility is close to 10 km away. To travel that distance requires the residents to navigate rough and dangerous roads most often by foot, bicycle or motorbike taxi. Specialist consultations are 72 km away and require a full day to travel. It is vital, therefore to improve the services locally.
Maternal and infant mortality rates in the county are among the highest in Kenya and indeed the world, as demonstrated in these charts. Our goal is to reduce mortality rates for mothers and babies by at least 20% by the year 2030. That will be five years post completion of our maternal child improvement project.
Infant Mortality rates (per 1,000 births)
Maternal Mortality rates (per 100,000 Births)
